What makes a person smart? Smartness comes when a person senses the ongoing situation and reacts accordingly.
Similarly, in a smartphone there are certain sensors which senses the things going on outside the smartphone and inside it and ultimately acts to those situations. So today we are going to learn about some of the sensors in smartphone.

Let’s start.

Sensors in Smartphone

1) Proximity Sensor:
The proximity Sensor senses the distance between two objects than gives the necessary results after certain processing.
It senses the distance using IR rays which stands for Infrared Rays.
Example: when a person keeps the phone his/her ear, with the help of proximity sensor, the smartphone screen turns off when the person is dealing with the call.
The proximity sensor works on the principal of emitting and receiving the IR radiation and then calculating the distance between the two objects. This is one of the most common sensors in smartphone.

2)Accelerometer:
Acceleration is the change in speed/velocity of object with respect to time. In case of mobile phones, the accelerometer senses the movement according to the three axes and then rotates the screen about axes. Example: If we hold the phone vertically, then the screen remains in portrait way, but if we hold the phone horizontally, then the phone turns the screen in landscape mode.

3) Barometer:
Barometer is a device used to sense the pressure around it. Smartphones comes with Barometer, which also gives the information of distance of phone from the sea level.

4) Light Sensor:
The smartphones comes with the auto-brightness feature which works with amount of light near the smartphone. The light sensor in the smartphone judges the surrounding light and then adjusts the brightness according. Example, if we use the phone outside the shed, that is in the sun, then the light sensors senses the light and increases the brightness of the screen and vice-versa works with dark place.

5) Thermometer:
Smartphones have thermometers inside it which measures the temperature inside the device. That helps smartphone to ensure that the           processor works slower so that it does not get more heated up and damaged. Some of the Smartphones, now comes with the thermometer       which actually measure the temperature of the surroundings.

6) Gyroscope:
The Gyroscope sensor gives the precise information of the degree or angle at which the phone has been placed in the space. It has wide             range of applications. Mainly this sensor is responsible for the 360° photos and videos.

7) Pedometer:
Used to measure the number of steps walked in particular set time. The pedometer uses the technology similar to the accelerometer.
8) Humidity Sensor:
The Humidity sensor as the name suggests senses the humidity of the surroundings.

9) Radiation Sensor:
The Radiation sensor, gives the information about the radiation around and also gives the SAR (Specific Absorption        Rate) value.

10) Magnetometer:
The Magnetometer, used for the campass for getting the directions. It is also used for metal detector as it creates magnetic fields around            it.
